Religion and Justice Minor

Return to: Majors, Minors, Concentrations, and Certifications
The aim of this minor is to give students expertise in understanding religion as a global, human phenomenon, one that is intimately bound up with structures of power. This minor allows students to explore, in an interdisciplinary context, how the category of religion has interacted with and continues to influence and be influenced by political, social, economic, legal, artistic, and cultural frameworks. The minor especially focuses on the ways in which religion can alternatively support as much as stand in tension with the aims of social justice, especially as pursued in a global context. The minor is designed to be particularly flexible in order to allow students to reinforce their global study of religion with local explorations of religion in a community-based learning context; similarly, the minor is flexible enough to interface directly with majors that could benefit from the study of religion. Minor requires 18 credits.
