COM 425 - Women and Film (4 Cr.) (Cross listed as WGS 325 ) (GCR RPP) This course examines films and filmmakers noted for their singular, provocative approaches to screening women. Drawing on feminist and queer theories, we will explore how these films and filmmakers challenge and transgress gender roles and sexual norms while experimenting with cinematic form. Filmmakers to be studied represent a variety of historical periods, nationalities, and film traditions, including classical and contemporary Hollywood, avant-garde cinema, independent film, and international art cinema. Repeatable if the topic is different. Prerequisites: WGS 330 and junior or senior status; OR COM 341 or COM 342 , and COM 262 , and junior or senior status; or permission of the instructor. Spring semester, alternate years. San Filippo.
