SOC 245 - Wealth, Power, and Prestige (3 Cr.) Exploration of the origins, nature, and functions of social inequality, focusing on the processes that produce and maintain inequalities in wealth, power, privilege, and prestige in modern societies. Comparative analysis of objective and subjective consequences of class and caste stratification systems. Relative impact of class, race, gender, or ethnic differences on life opportunities. Prerequisite: SOC 106 or ANT 107 or one 200-level social science course. Fall semester. Offered 2013-2014 and alternate years. Ghoshal, Shope.
