HIS 226 - Women and Gender in Modern European History (3 Cr.) (WS 246 ) This course examines modern Europe through the lens of women and gender, including topics such as the Enlightenment and women’s rights, masculinity in revolutionary politics, Victorian domesticity, the rise of consumer cultures, discourses on sex, reproduction, and women’s bodies, the effects of colonialism on gender ideology, suffrage campaigns, gender politics during and after the two world wars, and negotiating gender across the Cold War divide of eastern and western Europe. Prerequisite: sophomore standing and any other course in history or women’s studies. Variable semesters. Fraser.
