CPEC 211 - Talking Dead: Memory, Landscapes and the Dead (4 Cr.) This course explores pressing problems of modern racism in death in federal and state laws over burial space and segregated landscapes in Maryland. Utilizing interdisciplinary perspectives in history, archaeology and historic preservation, we will examine the roots of discrimination in landscapes and how regional histories or constructed through space manipulation. We will look at the graveyards as landscapes of memory, which are currently the subject of a number of battles in the US over who is valued in life and death. Offered Spring 2021. Jones.
