DMC 331 - Mathematical Modeling (4 Cr.) Mathematical modeling is the process of transforming a problem into a mathematical framework in order to analyze and solve it. Modeling is essential to understand patterns, make predictions, and determine outcomes in applications as varied as disease outbreak, the interaction of species in ecosystems, the spread of an oil spill, the pricing scheme of a product, or the transportation of a drug through the bloodstream. This project-based class will use datasets and computer software such as Excel and MATLAB to model and solve problems using differential equations, graphs, dimensional analysis, parameter estimation, and sensitivity analysis. Prerequisite: C- or above in MA 172 . Fall semester of odd years. Staff.
