Next Steps for Potential Majors and Minors

Students interested in majoring or minoring in Economics should start by enrolling in EC 111 - Essentials of Economics I (4 Cr.) .

Students who have received a 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams for Microeconomics and/or Macroeconomics, will receive academic credit for the following requirements in the Economics major or minor:

  • EC 111  with a 4 or 5 in either AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics
  • EC 111  and EC 211  with a 4 or 5 in both AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics
  • EC 206  with a 4 or 5 on the AP Statistics Exam

The same type of substitution will be available for students who have taken either a Principles of Microeconomics or Principles of Macroeconomics course at another institution.

  • EC 111  with at least a C- in either Principles of Microeconomics or Macroeconomics
  • EC 111  and EC 211  with at least a C- in both Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics

Given that EC 206  is a prerequisite for EC 320 , students should take EC 206  no later than the end of their junior year. Students may not take EC 206  if credit has already been received for another statistics course. Students planning to major in economics are encouraged to complete EC 311  as soon as possible, because it provides the essential analytical skills used in most economics applications.

Qualifications Required to Graduate with Honors in the Economics Major

Honors in the economics major is conferred upon students who achieve a grade point average of at least 3.67 in all courses that count toward the major.
