Center for Education, Business, and Professional Studies

The Center for Education, Business and Professional Studies prepares students to pursue professional careers either via entering the workforce directly or through continuing education. The Center’s majors, minors, and concentrations utilize the critical thinking skills and broad multidisciplinary grounding from the liberal arts and apply these skills to practical solutions. The Center’s subjects are the applications of the liberal arts to the real world.

Majors and minors in the Center include those in Education, Business, Equine Studies, Arts Administration and Prelaw. Please select an area of study below to view specific options open to students.

Arts Administration

Students who major or minor in art history, studio art,  dance, digital arts and media, music or theatre can add a concentration in arts administration, which is overseen by the Business Management Department. This is especially relevant for students who want to manage art-based endeavors in the future.

Business Management

The Business Management Department offers both a major and minor in business management. A concentration in international business is available to students who major in business management; a minor in international business is available for non-business students.

Education and Special Education

The Education Department’s primary purpose is to prepare teachers for elementary and secondary schools. Teaching at any of these levels requires three major areas of preparation: (1) thorough knowledge of the subject matter, (2) understanding of the learners, and (3) study of the means whereby knowledge is communicated.  The department offers majors in elementary education and special education as well as secondary education certification and an education minor.  The department also offers a 4+1 program where graduates will gain their education certification as well as a masters in education.

Equine Studies

Equine Studies in a multidisciplinary minor that prepares students for a wide variety of horse related careers including for example, stable manager, large animal veterinarian, bloodstock agent, equine artist or journalist.

Legal Studies Minor

The Legal Studies minor prepares students for a variety of avenues in the field of law. Most Legal Studies minors either attend law school or pursue legal related professions. Goucher has an alliance with New York University’s School of Law that provides additional assistance and preparation for students as they prepare to attend a variety of law schools.
