The major in psychology encourages students to explore a wide range of perspectives from the discipline in order to select areas of interest for in-depth study. A selection of diverse perspectives will be included in the Introduction to Psychology course required of all majors. Students will then sample from clusters of courses from related perspectives, and complete two methodology courses. Two professional development courses are also required. The major culminates with two upper-level seminar courses and an Advanced Practicum Experience for the Psychology Capstone. Total credits required: 42. Every psychology major must complete at least 15 credits at the 300/400 level.

Required courses:

Four Cluster Courses (at least one from each cluster):

Two Professional Development Courses (required for psychology majors who enter Goucher starting in Fall 2017):

Two 400-Level Seminar Courses:

All seminars have pre-requisites including a research methods course. Though students may repeat seminars for credit provided that the topic is different, seminars with different course numbers must be taken in order to satisfy the seminar requirement. The seminars, as well as the research methods courses [PSY 302  (formerly PSY 252) or PSY 305  (formerly PSY 255)], must be taken at Goucher rather than in study-abroad programs or at other institutions.

One Advanced Practicum Experience for the Psychology Capstone:

Requirements for Honors in the Major

Honors in the psychology major will be awarded to students who have at least a 3.8 GPA in psychology coursework completed at Goucher.
