Economics is a universal subject for universally curious students who:
- Want to a framework to critically analyze contemporary economic problems and to formulate policy solutions to address those problems.
- Want to acquire quantitative skills that are desired by employers and graduate programs, particularly in economics, finance, public policy, and law.

A major in economics requires the following courses:
Next Steps for Potential Majors and Minors
Students interested in majoring or minoring in Economics should start by enrolling in EC 111 - Essentials of Economics I (4 Cr.) .
Students who have received a 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams for Microeconomics and/or Macroeconomics, will receive academic credit for the following requirements in the Economics major or minor:
- EC 111 with a 4 or 5 in either AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics
- EC 111 and EC 211 with a 4 or 5 in both AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics
- EC 206 with a 4 or 5 on the AP Statistics Exam
The same type of substitution will be available for students who have taken either a Principles of Microeconomics or Principles of Macroeconomics course at another institution.
- EC 111 with at least a C- in either Principles of Microeconomics or Macroeconomics
- EC 111 and EC 211 with at least a C- in both Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics
Given that EC 206 is a prerequisite for EC 320 , students should take EC 206 no later than the end of their junior year. Students may not take EC 206 if credit has already been received for another statistics course. Students planning to major in economics are encouraged to complete EC 311 as soon as possible, because it provides the essential analytical skills used in most economics applications.

Qualifications Required to Graduate with Honors in the Economics Major
Honors in the economics major is conferred upon students who achieve a grade point average of at least 3.67 in all courses that count toward the major.
