RUS 256 - Laughter Through Tears (4 Cr.) (cross-listed as RUS 356, WL 256, and WL 356)
In Russian and/or English. Primarily a literary surveycourse for mid-intermediate students comprised of annotated texts supplemented by short written assignments. Native speakers read authentic texts. English speakers read the works in translation. Major genres, and literary movements of the late 18th to mid-19th century are covered in the works of major writers: Karamzin, Pushkin, Lermontov, Gogol, Turgenev, Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky. Individual works selected in accordance with the topic. Essential grammar review and intensive vocabulary building is integrated into the course. Prerequisite: RUS 231 or RUS 248 . Fall semester.
