SOA 234 - Ethnography of Religion (4 Cr.)(formerly ANT 234) (LER DIV) In this course we will engage with ethnographic inquiries into spiritual life that provide rich windows into the range of religious meaning and experience. These ethnographies offer analytic and interpretive strategies to understand what it is like to be human in different times and places, and the importance of myth, symbol, and ritual in the individual and collective challenge of the human condition. Exploring this material may challenge our assumptions about other people’s religious practices, and invite us to reconsider our own understanding of ourselves and the world. Spring semester. Offered 2018-19 and alternate years. Turner.
