MUS 349 - Romanticism and Beyond (4 Cr.)(Formerly MUS 249) As the pre-Socratic philosopher Heraclitus said, “Whirl is King!” This course examines the flux and chaos of the Romantic temperament in 19th-century music, its consequences in the 20th and 21st centuries, and the composers and performers contributing to the polyphony of styles and sensibilities in this wild ride through time. Composers considered include Schubert, Chopin, Schumann, Berlioz, Liszt, Wagner, Brahms, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Boulez, Messiaen, Glass, Cage, et al. Prerequisite: MUS 115 or permission of instructor. Spring semester. Staff.
