SOA 484 - Seminar: Sociology of Masculinites (4 Cr.)(formerly SOC 384) This course examines men’s lives and the construction of multiple masculinities in contemporary American culture. In doing so, it takes a critical approach to masculinities and their relationships to hegemonic masculinity and various forms of feminity. Special attention will be given to men’s movements and their connections to women’s movements, female masculinity, media representations, sex, friendship, violence, and sports. Prerequisites: Junior standing and one of the following courses: SOA 200 , SOA 201 , or SOA 217 . Spring semester. Offered 2018-2019 and alternate years. Mullaney.
