SOA 243 - Ethnographic Fieldwork (4 Cr.)(formerly ANT 243) This course engages with ethnographic fieldwork and representation in its practical and theoretical dimensions. How can we meaningfully, accurately, and ethically come to understand and represent the lives of others? We will look at the history, challenges, and contributions of ethnographic fieldwork and undertake a sustained ethnographic inquiry. This course will be of interest to writers, researchers, artists, and activists who want to connect deeply with people and represent them with respect, insight, and purpose. Prerequisite: SOA 100 or permission of instructor. Spring semester. Offered 2017-18 and alternate years. Turner.
