ARH 249 - History and Methods of Art History (3 Cr.)

(formerly ART 249) (LER-TXT)
This course explores the history of art history from its earliest writings to the formation of the contemporary discipline. Emphasis will be given to modes of interpreting the art object, including feminist, Marxist, and structuralist methodologies, as well as different forms of analysis, including stylistic, iconographic, and contextual. Students will also learn methods of scholarly research appropriate to the discipline, including finding, evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing primary and secondary visual and textual sources.  Prerequisites: ARH 103  (formerly ART 103) or permission of instructor.
