HIS 214 - Social Theory in Historical Context (3 Cr.) Understanding social theory is an important tool for the craft of history. This course focuses on the emergence of certain social theorists who have been critical to analyzing society and culture since the 18th century. Readings include Smith, Marx, Weber, Durkheim, a number of Frankfurt School figures (including Habermas), and Foucault. Prerequisite: sophomore standing or permission of instructor.
