ART 264 - Realism & Impressionism: Art and the Rise of the Middle Class (3 Cr.) European and American painting, sculpture, and visual culture from 1840s through the 1880s, with particular emphasis on the economic, political, and intellectual context in which this art was conceived and produced, including the impact of political, economic, and industrial revolutions, urbanization, commercialism and consumerism, and the rise of a middle class. Prerequisite: ART 103 or permission of instructor. Offered Fall 2015 and alternate years. Husch.
