PHL 226 - Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy (3 Cr.) (RLG 226 ) (GEN. ED. #4) The major Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, and Neoplatonic thinkers of the two periods. Religious thought, rational theology, the development of humanism, and the development of natural sciences. Readings from St. Anselm, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, Peter Abelard, Maimonides, Averroes, Ficino, and Pico. Prerequisite: either sophomore standing, a 100-level philosophy course, or permission of the instructor. Fall semester. Offered 2009-10 and alternate years. Rose.
