VMC 110 - Preserving our Heritage (4 Cr.) (GCR ENV)(GCR Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies area) Over the last half-century, the field of historic preservation has evolved into a dynamic, multidisciplinary enterprise. In attempting to understand and preserve our built environment, historic preservation relies on the expertise of historians, architects, builders, archaeologists, anthropologists, urban planners, and ethnographers. This course is designed as an introduction to the field of Historic Preservation. It will focus on the history, philosophy, and major contemporary issues of Historic Preservation. Through readings and discussion, speakers, and field trips, the course will provide students with an overview of this dynamic discipline that is so vital to culture, urban planning, and environmental sustainability. Fall semester.
