CHE 495 - Independent Research in Chemistry (2)(formerly CHE 495Y) A special opportunity for advanced students to pursue a research topic. Students considering graduate studies should explore this possibility with a department faculty sponsor. Under the guidance of the faculty sponsor, the student designs laboratory or field research for one or two semesters. The research may take place on campus or at an off-campus laboratory. Results of the research will be submitted in a format suitable for publication in a research journal in the field of study. Independent research and oral presentation of research findings in a departmental seminar are required for graduation with honors in the major. A minimum of 4 credits of CHE 495, ordinarily spread over two semesters, is required for the ACS-certified degree. Each credit corresponds to 45 hours of lab work over the course of the semester. Students may repeat one time for credit. Prerequisites: permission of the instructor and approval of the department. Variable semesters.
