MUS 146 - Goucher African Dance and Music Ensemble (1 Cr.)

This ensemble aspires to empower and strengthen the narrative of African arts for the Goucher College community to learn and experience the history, movement, and beauty of African traditional dance, music, and culture at its apogee. Students will work towards and commit to artistic excellence through formal concerts or showing. This class is open to all students and provides an opportunity to experience traditional African dance forms - drumming and singing included.  It focuses on the cultural and historical importance of African and African Diasporic performance elements. Students will practice playing an instrument, singing, dancing, and learning names and functions of various African instruments. This class will also emphasize community building and individual potential in the form of an ensemble. Repeatable up to three times for credit. Variable semesters. Program faculty.
