MDS 435 - Global Media (4 Cr.)(Formerly COM 435) (GCR Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies area) Through globalization, the world is more complexly connected today than ever before, and media and communication play a crucial role in this process. This class seeks to make sense of the implications of globalization for culture and society around the world, as well as attendant nationalist backlashes. We explore these issues through an exploration of television, film, and digital media from a transnational perspective, with an emphasis on media production, distribution, audiences, and infrastructures from outside the Western world. Prerequisites: at least two of the 300-level required theory/criticism and history courses or two 200-level political science courses, MDS 262 , and junior or senior status, by the beginning of the semester; or permission of the instructor.
