PHY 281 - Mathematical Methods for Mechanics (4 Cr.) This course presents kinematics and dynamics of particles using Newtonian and Lagrangian techniques, while also introducing students to some common mathematical methods used in the physical sciences. Topics from physics include central force motion, oscillations and normal mode analysis, nonlinear dynamics. Mathematical topics can include differential equations, partial differentiation, series expansions, calculus of variation, and some special functions. Lecture. Prerequisite: PHY 220 and MA 224 or permission of instructor. Spring semester. Markovic.
