Creative Writing Minor

At the 200 level in creative writing, choose at least one of the following:

• ENG 202 - Short-Story Writing (3 Cr.)
• ENG 205 - Introductory Poetry Workshop (3 Cr.)
• ENG 217 - Literature & Film: Screenplay Adaptation (3 Cr.)
• ENG 226 - Creative Nonfiction I (3 Cr.)

At the 300 level in creative writing, choose at least one of the following:

• ENG 305 - Writing Workshop: Poetry (3 Cr.)
• ENG 306 - Writing Workshop: Fiction (3 Cr.)
• ENG 307 - Creative Nonfiction II (3 Cr.)

Required Course:

• ENG 315 - Advanced Seminar in Creative Writing (3 Cr.)

3 credits of additional coursework in creative writing at the 200, 300, or 400 level (including ENG 400 Independent Study), are required.

The following courses may be of particular interest:

• ENG 217 - Literature & Film: Screenplay Adaptation (3 Cr.)
• WRT 203 - Feature Writing for Newspaper and Magazines (3 Cr.)

3 credits of coursework in literature at the 200 or 300 level are required.

These may be ENG courses; ENG 242/AMS 242 From Puritan Diaries to Oprah’s Book Club: Readers and Writers in American History is especially recommended. You may also choose among the following courses:

• FR 330 - Special Topics in French Literature (4 Cr.)
• FR 351 - Topics in Francophone African Literature & Cinema (4 Cr.)
• GER 240 - Introduction to German, Austrian and Swiss Literatures and Writers. Rotating Topics (4 Cr.)
• SP 254 - Survey of Peninsular Literatures and Cultures: An Exploration of Spain’s Literary Journey (3 Cr.)
• SP 294 - Survey of Latin-American Literatures and Cultures: Visión de los Vencidos, an Alternative Perspective (3 Cr.)

The final 3 credits are your choice among any of the courses and categories listed above. ENG 120 may also count.
