Center for Natural Sciences

The Center for Natural Sciences exemplifies the Goucher model of education by preparing students to apply the knowledge and tools of the natural sciences critically, analytically and creatively in order to understand the universe around them. The philosophy of the Center is to guide students in their investigations in the natural sciences while striving to maintain an atmosphere of a community of scholars where students, faculty and staff are partners in the learning process.  It is important to us that our students gain not only the capacity for independent learning, problem-solving, and transferrable skills, but also the confidence to explore their curiosities beyond the limits of structured course material. We hope to prepare all our students for success in a range of science and technology career paths, but also inspire students to utilize and expand their knowledge and understanding of science throughout their lives. 

The Center for Natural Sciences includes majors and minors in Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Engineering Science, and Environmental Studies; hosts the interdisciplinary minor in Public Health; and advises students in the Pre-Health Professional Programs.
