The major in psychology encourages students to explore a wide range of perspectives from the discipline in order to select areas of interest for in-depth study. A selection of diverse perspectives will be included in the Introduction to Psychology course required of all majors. Students will then sample from clusters of courses from related perspectives, and complete two methodology courses. Two professional development courses are also required. The major culminates with two upper-level seminar courses and an Advanced Practicum Experience for the Psychology Capstone. Total credits required: 40. Every psychology major must complete at least 15 credits at the 300/400 level. Each cluster requires a minimum of 3 credits.
All seminars have pre-requisites including a research methods course. Though students may repeat seminars for credit provided that the topic is different, seminars with different course numbers must be taken in order to satisfy the seminar requirement. The seminars, as well as the research methods courses [PSY 302 or PSY 305], must be taken at Goucher rather than in study-abroad programs or at other institutions.
