HIS 273 - African American History II (4 Cr.) This course surveys the history of African Americans from Reconstruction through the present. Although we will trace a chronological path, the course investigates issues such as the Great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement & Black Power, and the “Urban Crisis” while also attending to matters of class and gender. Students will also learn about the historical significance of black cultural production to the American popular imagination by studying aspects of Blues, Jazz, and Hip-Hop culture.
Prerequisite: sophomore standing or permission of instructor; and/or HIS 211 recommended. Dator.
