MUS 203 - Special Topics in Music (3 Cr.) A semester-long, in-depth examination of a specific musical topic. The choice of topic will remain flexible. Possible courses include American Music from Colonial Times to the Present; First Nights-Notable Premieres of Great Works; The History of Rock and Roll; American Musical Theater; Music Criticism and Aesthetics; Nationalism in Music; Diction for Singers; and composer/genre-specific topics such as the Beethoven symphonies, the String Quartet, piano literature, chamber music masterworks, Mozart operas, Lieder in the 19th century, Stravinsky’s Russian ballets, and the Second Viennese school. Prerequisite: any three-credit, 100-level music course. Spring semester, at the discretion of the program.
