An evolutionary approach is used to study the structure, function, and diversity of prokaryotes, protists, fungi, plants, and invertebrates. Laboratory work emphasizes experimentation and observation of living organisms in studies of functional morphology and adaptation. Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory. BIO 104 is required for biology majors and highly recommended for students who will take additional courses in biology. Students considering electing BIO 104 to fulfill the general education requirement are encouraged to consult with an instructor or departmental chair. Fall semester. Hiller, Slocum.
