PHL 338 - Derrida (3 Cr.)


An in-depth study of Derrida’s early work, which begins with his critique of logocentrism, tracing its trajectory from his work on language and semiotics to the deconstruction of the metaphysics of presence. The class concludes with the readings of his later work, exploring the relevance of deconstruction for contemporary democratic theory, globalization, and education. Prerequisite: 200-level course in philosophy or permission of the instructor. Spring semester. Offered 2010-11 and alternate years. Grebowicz.
