MUS 153 - Jazz Theory II (3 Cr.) (GEN. ED. #8 and #9)
Building on the general foundation of Jazz Theory I, this course examines the specifics of styles such as bebop, cool, modal, and Latin jazz, with an emphasis on rhythmic analysis in addition to harmonic and melodic analysis. The course includes a jazz ear-training component. Students will compose and orchestrate tunes for a jazz band. Prerequisite: MUS 152 or permission of the instructor. Spring semester.
