HIS 226 - Women and Gender in Modern European History (3 Cr.)

This course examines modern Europe through the lens of women and gender, including topics such as the Enlightenment and women’s rights, masculinity in revolutionary politics, Victorian domesticity, the rise of consumer cultures, discourses on sex, reproduction, and women’s bodies, the effects of colonialism on gender ideology, suffrage campaigns, gender politics during and after the two world wars, and negotiating gender across the Cold War divide of eastern and western Europe. Prerequisite: HIS 117  and sophomore standing. Spring semester.Offered 2009-10 and alternating years. Fraser.
