SOA 220 - Comparative Race and Ethnic Relations (4 Cr.)(formerly SOC 220) Race, Power, and Perspective Social and Behavioral Sciences This course provides an understanding of contemporary race and ethnic relations in the United States. We explore the historical accounts of the social constructs of race and racism, ethnic groups, racial institutions, privilege, racialized forms of migration, racial inequality and injustices, including attention to the lived experiences of Black people and African Americans. While our intent in this course is to focus on these social constructs of race and ethnicity in the context of the United States, we also explore them in the contexts of various societies around the world. This course also considers connections between race, gender, and social class. Variable semesters.
