PHL 235 - Hermeneutics and Deconstruction (3 Cr.)

An overview of two current theories of interpretation articulated in Gadamer and Derrida and their applications in the social sciences, history, and literature. Examination and comparison of these methods of interpretation as they focus on the Dialogues of Plato. Prerequisite: either sophomore standing, a 100-level philosophy course, or permission of the instructor. Spring semester. Offered 2009-10 and alternate years. Rose.
