Studio Art Minor

The Studio Art Minor combines intensely engaged faculty, and the professional facilities of a larger school, with the personal attention paid to each student’s artistic and scholarly development only possible at a smaller college. The program offers a vast forum of ideas and concepts preparing you for a wide range of disciplines. You will have access to a shared studio space for interaction with classmates. Our faculty and staff will help to cultivate your passions and build on experiences for your career and is dedicated to a liberal arts education that prepares you within a broad, humane perspective for a life of inquiry, creativity, and critical and analytical thinking.

The Nancy G. Unobskey ‘60 Visiting Artist in Modern & Contemporary Art Program enables Studio Art to bring nationally and internationally recognized artists to Goucher’s campus to provide students with meaningful. There is significant access to the artists and their artwork via exhibitions in the Silber Gallery, studio visits, discussion groups and lectures.  Some previous visiting artists include Linda Montano, Ann Hamilton, Whitfield Lovell, Mark Dion & Layla Ali.  Our minor complements many areas of study, including majors such as the Visual and Material Culture, Integrative Arts Study, Digital Arts, Communication and Media Studies, as well as secondary minor education in art history, and a concentration in arts management.

Total number of credits required: 20.

Required Course (1 course, 4 credits)


Following the successful completion of 3 or more studio courses, or with approval of faculty, Art Minors may enroll in the one required course for the Minor:

Elective Courses (16 credits)


The courses that students elect will be determined through thoughtful conversation with their advisor. Art minors are strongly encouraged to exhibit their work in the Corrin Gallery or at other suitable venues in consultation with faculty during their final year. Students choose at least four 4-credit elective courses:
