ART 227 - Watercolor (4 Cr.)

This introductory level course covers the basics of watercolor painting, including how to apply washes, layer color, mask areas, and how to use tone to create the illusion of form. The course does not emphasize the basics of drawing, so students without extensive drawing experience may need to rely on mechanical drawing aids as needed.
Watercolor is a medium that uses luminous, intense, translucent color applied to paper in broad fluid washes or precise colored. It is an ideal sketching medium as it packs small, dries quickly, and cleans up easily with water. It is a medium that can bridge the gap between drawing and painting, combining well with pencil to quickly add tonal or color elements to the drawing. It has been used to field sketches, scientific illustration, figure studies, book illustration, architectural sketching, and non-objective art. Spring
