ES 420 - Applied Environmental Policy (4 Cr.)

This seminar examines the factors and processes that inform environmental decision-making in the United States, including democratic institutions, the policymaking process, and implementation at national, state, and local scales. This will give students the skills to identify the political and institutional barriers to policymaking and implementation, opportunities for policy change, and how different policy implementation choices yield different policy consequences. Students will be challenged to understand a variety of perspectives of the varied stakeholders involved in environmental problem-framing and -solving, and the negotiation of values that emerges in the environmental decision-making process.
