PCE 235 - History of the Public’s Health (4)

(PH 235 )
Health has been a central goal of humanity since the dawn of our species. Biomedicine’s focus on treatment and public health’s emphasis on prevention have evolved as two dominant approaches to disease management. They share a complex history that evolved in response to social, political, and economic pressures such as war, globalization, colonialism, capitalism, and climate change. We will examine their shared and divergent responses to health challenges past and present while exploring the ways both disciplines stimulate social change. Spring semester.
Prerequisite: Sophomore standing and WRT 181 Fall semester.
