CHE 495 - Independent Research in Chemistry I (2)(formerly CHE 495Y) A special opportunity for advanced students to pursue a research topic. Students considering graduate studies should explore this possibility with a department faculty sponsor. Under the guidance of the faculty sponsor, the student designs laboratory or field research. The research may take place on campus or at an off-campus laboratory. Results of the research will be submitted in a format suitable for publication in a research journal in the field of study. Independent research and oral presentation of research findings in a departmental seminar are required for graduation with honors in the major. Both CHE 495 and CHE 496 are required for the ACS-certified degree. Each credit corresponds to 45 hours of lab work over the course of the semester. Prerequisite: Prerequisites: permission of the instructor and approval of the department. Variable semesters.
