MUS 247 - American Music and Musicology (4)
An introduction to the academic study of music using the rich history of music in the United States as a way into investigating our nation’s social and artistic reality and ways in which music achieves meaning. Topics might include music in colonial society, music of indigenous peoples, jazz and blues, or the music industry in America, and will offer a lens into inequalities in American culture. Spring semester. Offered 2024 and even numbered years.
