DMC 160 - Functions, Data and Models (4 Cr.) This course examines common statistical, algebraic, and pre-calculus concepts utilized in data analysis. The course is intended as a broad overview of the foundational math used across many disciplines. This course can also serve as preparation for a full semester course in Calculus or statistics. Topics are presented in an applied manner to answer real questions in multiple fields, such as those in computer science, data science, and the natural and social sciences. Commonly used mathematical concepts (such as functions, vectors, and matrices) are introduced in contexts such as image processing, data cleaning and transformation, and the mathematical modeling of real-world phenomena.
