THE 245 - Topics in Design for the Stage (2 Cr.)

Through hands-on projects stimulated by play texts students will understand how designed elements contribute to the construction of meaning in the theatre. Rotating topics include set design, lighting design, costume design and puppetry. Topics in Design for the Stage may be repeated with a change of topic. Students will be encouraged to think about the topic in “performances” off the stage as well. Questions such as the relationship of clothes to identity, an environments impact on human choice and human relationships, and the power of objects to communicate will be entertained. . The course may be taken twice for credit, on different topics. The course will be offered annually, with three topics in rotation. Pre-requisite: THE 140  or permission of the instructor.
