SOA 200 - Development of Social Thought (4 Cr.) (WEC) This course traces the development of anthropological and sociological theory. We will consider the ideas of influential theorists in their own historical contexts, as well as in relation to contemporary theoretical concerns in the disciplines. We will also use these ideas as frameworks for conceptualizing current issues and for offering insights into everyday social life. Some of the topics we will consider include: agency, subjectivity, social change, power, race, symbolic meaning, and the politics of representation. Prerequisite: SOA 100 or permission of the instructor. Fall semester. Mullaney and Schwarz.
