ARH 264 - Realism & Impressionism: Art and the Rise of the Middle Class (4 Cr.)

(formerly ART 264)
European and American painting, sculpture, and visual culture from 1840s through the 1880s, with particular emphasis on the economic, political, and intellectual context in which this art was conceived and produced, including the impact of political, economic, and industrial revolutions, urbanization, commercialism and consumerism, and the rise of a middle class.  Prerequisite: ARH 103  (formerly ART 103) or permission of instructor.
