ART 273 - High Renaissance (3 Cr.)

This course surveys painting, sculpture, and architecture in the age of Michelangelo, Durer, and Titian. In addition to exploring the artistic production of 16th-century Italy and Northern Europe in its cultural contexts, we will consider the emergence of the artist in the Early Modern era; the rise of art theory; the assimilation of antiquity in 16th-century art; and the development of portraiture, landscape, and mythology in 16th-century visual culture. Prerequisite: ART 103  or permission of instructor. Spring semester. Offered 2012-13 and alternate years. Oettinger.
