PHL 237 - Queer Theory (4 Cr.) (GCR Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies area) Queer theory is one of the richest and fastest growing fields of contemporary philosophical inquiry. This course will trace various arguments for overcoming the categories “heterosexual” and “homosexual,” as defined in hetero-patriarchy, in favor of a more contemporary understanding of sexuality (and gender itself) as mobile, contradictory, and irreducibly mediated by social forces. In addition to the classic literature in this area, readings will explore kink, camp, affect, the relationship between queer and feminist resistances, and the queering of the philosophical tradition.
